Diego Oka is executive chef at La Mar. He was born and raised in Lima, Peru, one of the worlds’ most diverse and eclectic culinary destinations. Blending personal experiences and a background of Japanese descent into his cuisine, he draws on influences ranging from his grandmother’s cooking to the food he discovered while living in Mexico and Colombia.
After his Top Chef victory, the Florida native left Jean-Georges' Matador Roomto open Stubborn Seed in Miami Beach.He also owns Krun-Chi, a Korean eatery in Miami, and plans to open a casual seafood restaurant in 2021.
Chef & Owner, Caja Caliente. Many will say Miami native and founder of Caja Caliente, Monica “Mika” Leon, was born to be in the culinary world. After migrating to Spain from Cuba in the 1960s, Mika's grandfather opened a chain of Cuban restaurants, which he ran along with his family through the 1970s.
